WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Hello friends,
We have some very unfortunate and sad news and we need your help to solve it. Last night towards the end of our These Friends opening (after the crowds had left and we were cleaning up) someone stole a piece off the wall and bolted out the front door. It was Jason Lee’s one of a kind 8×10 Polaroid of the late Dennis Hopper. The artist is putting up a $25,000 dollar reward to anyone who brings it back to us. This is a very sentimental one of a kind piece for obvious reasons. The thief can come forward anonymously and charges won’t be pressed against him. Please get the word out and help us get Jason’s art back. You can call us 323-747-5301 or email this@thislosangeles.com with any information. Thanks.
Also, the piece can be anonymously mailed back to THIS los angeles, 5906 N. Figueroa St. LA, CA 90042
P.S. This piece was not for sale, it’s extremely sentimental to Jason and he just wanted to share it with the art community by having it in the show.

Did the video last night capture anything? If it did maybe posting a screen capture might help. Maybe someone could recognize who it was. I was there in the early part of the opening and it was already pretty busy I’m sure things got
Wilder as the night progressed. Either way I am Sorry that you guys have to deal with something like this and hope the piece is returned.
So sorry this happened
If I can help in any way,
please let me know.
$25,000 reward? Jason’s pissed. This is personal.
Seriously WTF you dick head. who steals art from an opening? What do you think you are an ART CAPER?????? Return the art … NOW?
DUMB ASS!
So sorry–I am trying to get the word out..
Not only as a professional visual artist who has had work stolen myself, but also as someone who owned and operated a successful art gallery in Washington, DC for 11 years, I can tell you first-hand how reprehensible this is!
I am posting this story on my blog (http://sprouseart.blogspot.com/2011/02/while-thievery-sucks-art-thievery.html)with the hopes of getting the word out and will do the same on my Twitter and Facebook page.
Best of luck!
Wow, who really steals art from an art show??? This is someones personnal piece of art, whomever took this picture really needs to return it to Mr. Lee. Maybe, the criminal needs to look at it this way…..what if that was a picture of your mother or father??? And some ass stole it. My heart goes out to Mr. Lee. I am so sorry.
if you turn in the idiot that stole the photo and jason gets it back , you can have my painting from the show.
This is so depressing… I’ll post on my blog as well to try to help get the word out.

I’ve shared this on my Facebook page with my art loving friends to see if getting the word out can help in it’s recovery.
If i was wealthy..I would offer a reward but..IM NOT..so please return this extraordinary art to the place it belongs for all to admire!!

So sorry to hear this… May the person who decided that this was a good idea soon find himself or herself guilt ridden and completely paranoid… The idea of this is so lost on today’s youth and L.A. has one of the worst art scenes… Before you get all “explicit explicit L.A. rules explicit!” that is unnecessary I live here too… I know I’m generalizing and not being fair to the actual art on display in the area… sorry. It’s “the scene” that’s the problem, as it’s always been in art. People strive for fame and success no matter what the consequences… Respect is a thing of the past. Why respect hard work and production of unique things when I can just look it up on online… I do hope that the culprits are brought to justice and the original piece is returned un-compromised to its rightful owner post-heist… Not only is this disrespectful to the photographer and the subject matter but also to the concept of “art.”
To Mr. Lee.
I hope this is returned to you and a genuine apology along with the proper punishment is delegated to all parties involved. I do hope the Gallery is also taking responsibility for this I would have to say it starts with them and ends with whoever has taken the piece.
I am sorry for the unfortunate news. To help gain a bit more publicity for your story, I will post it to twitter tomorrow morning so the most people see it.
I truly hope it is returned quickly.
Was this ever recovered? Curious minds want to know!
